The below provisions are allowed in an effort to recognize that disability staff may require internal IT and/or technical support for downloading and/or accessing software provided through CIDI when using/installing it on their institution’s computers. Further, this policy is sufficient to provide for the instance in which a student does not have a personal laptop computer and/or requires software access on multiple computers throughout the campus.
CIDI provides software to its students and Student Support Services to assist institutions in creating the most accessible learning environments for their students. To that end, the agreements that we have developed with software vendors require that we restrict the software usage to students and faculty of member institutions who are being served by the Disability Service Offices. CIDI does not hold software licenses for campus wide distribution. However, we certainly encourage any institution that is interested to contact vendors directly to obtain campus wide licenses. Further, if you would like to discuss campus wide distribution we would be happy to put you in touch with the CIDI representative for any or all of our vendors.
If you are only accessing software that is provided under your membership agreement, CIDI software usage policies cover Student and Disability Service Staff in the following ways:
Student Downloads: Students enrolled and receiving CIDI services are eligible to receive software provided from the Student Center
Disability Service Staff: Disability service staff employed at a CIDI member institution and which are listed in the Service Portal ordering and fulfillment application also have access to the software downloads.
The rationale for disability service staff to have access to the software is:
- Ability to assist the students with the use of and/or demonstrate the software to the student;
- To make the software available on disability resource center computer labs for use by students
- To make the software available on campus designated testing environments so that students can access the software when taking tests, exams, etc.
