About Web Accessibility Group (WAG) Spotlight

The Web Accessibility Group (WAG) began at UGA in 2011 and transitioned to Georgia Tech's AMAC Accessibility Solutions and Research Center in 2015. Its purpose is to bring together individuals in higher education attempting to navigate the complex Section 508 standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. WAG currently offers web accessibility information and assistance through a wiki, listserv, and monthly online meetings where expert presenters are invited to share best practices and solutions.

The Web Accessibility Group (WAG) meets online via Collaborate web conferencing system on the first Wednesday of the month.

Next Meeting: Wednesday December 6, 2017 from 11:00am-12:00pm (EDT)

Topic: IAAP Overview: Building an International Community of Accessibility Professionals

Description: This session will discuss how you and your school can use the wealth of resources, education, certification, collaboration tools, network of accessibility professionals, and more to advance the skills of your accessibility professionals. These programs are available through the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) to disability service offices and individuals working on accessibility initiatives in higher education. You may be looking to achieve greater digital accessibility to support your internal and external audiences with disabilities, stand out from other colleges/universities, or achieve greater accessibility compliance and reduce risk.

IAAP can be a valuable resource for individuals and organizations already focused on accessibility or who are just starting to build their skills and strategies and are looking to achieve a more effective accessibility roadmap that serves the needs of the school, their students, employees, and community.

Keypoints

  • Understand how IAAP provides accessibility professional development opportunities for individuals.
  • Understand the IAAP Certification Program to date and plans for new certifications in 2018/2019.
  • Understand the IAAP programs that support organizational accessibility development.
