About Web Accessibility Group (WAG) Spotlight

The Web Accessibility Group (WAG) began at UGA in 2011 and transitioned to Georgia Tech's AMAC Accessibility Solutions and Research Center in 2015. Its purpose is to bring together individuals in higher education attempting to navigate the complex Section 508 standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. WAG currently offers web accessibility information and assistance through a wiki, listserv, and monthly online meetings where expert presenters are invited to share best practices and solutions.

Dr. Beatriz Potter, a faculty member in the Modern and Classical (MCL) Languages Department at Valdosta State University (VSU) has been a leader in addressing accessibility issues in online courses and instructional materials.

The Web Accessibility Group (WAG) meets online via Collaborate web conferencing system on the first Wednesday of the month.

Recent Meeting: December 7, 2016 from 11:00am-12:00pm (ET)

Topic: Procurement of Accessible ICTs: Challenges, Solutions and the Georgia Tech Best Practices Procurement Model

Description: Procurement of accessible Information and Communication Technologies requires a basic understanding of what’s required of procurement professionals and why. This session will cover the challenges, solutions, tips and tools for procuring accessible ICTS and will feature Georgia Tech best practices model for this process.

Presenters:

  • Joy Kniskern
    Joy Kniskern, M.Ed., CRC, Special Projects Strategist at AMAC Accessibility Solutions, has over thirty-five years of experience in launching and operating federal and state grant programs focusing on increasing access to and acquisition of assistive and accessible technologies. For the last three years, she has supported AMAC’s initiatives in addressing ICT accessibility issues, including procurement of accessible ICTs, within state government and USG institutions. She obtained an M.Ed. at Georgia State University and a BA from Vanderbilt University.
  • James Logan
    James Logan, Ph.D., MBA, Manager of Quality Assurance, Georgia Institute of Technology, directs quality and development for web-based issues, errors, and test cases. Over the last few years, he has helped drive Georgia’ Tech’s initiative to create a streamline, university-wide system that supports the procurement of accessible Information and Communication Technologies for faculty and staff. Dr. Logan obtained his Ph.D. from Nova University and his MBA from Rivier College.
