Increasing Accessibility for Vision Related Disabilities

What is Audio Description?

“Audio Description involves the accessibility of the visual images of theater, television, movies, and other art forms for people who are blind, have low vision, or who are otherwise visually impaired... Audio Description is commentary and narration which guides the listener through the presentation with concise, objective descriptions...”

From the American Council of the Blind – http://www.acb.org/adp/ad.html

Our audio description team has several years of experience providing descriptions for governmental agencies and public and private universities across the country. We have also worked with our corporate members to ensure that their training materials and advertisements are made accessible for a wider audience.

AMAC Audio Description Services

Our audio description services are divided into two categories: standard and complex. Both services provide the same high-quality deliverables but differentiate based on the labor needed to produce the finished product. Prices presented below assume a five-minute minimum for each video.

  • Standard Audio Description:
    • Most videos are considered standard. A standard video requires only minimal research and one voice actor.
  • Complex Audio Description:
    • Very few videos are considered complex. A complex video would require extensive research to properly describe visual elements and/or an additional voice artist. An example of a complex video would be a video with complicated graphs and diagrams with no narration, a video based in a foreign culture with important visual elements relating to that culture, or a video with consistent subtitling throughout.

Deliverables for all audio description products include an MP4 video file with extended description and an accessible text script of the audio description including time codes for when the description occurs in the video. Turnaround time for audio description may vary based on content. A standard project completion time is three to six weeks.

AMAC Audio Description Price Estimate — To provide an estimate, AMAC Audio Description Services will view your video and determine its level of complexity. In most cases, you will have to provide us the video through a file-sharing service, such as Dropbox; through an Internet streaming service, such as YouTube or Vimeo; or through FTP. Please email us at caps@amac.gatech.edu for additional information.
