Getting Started

  • SAM V2 is a relational database application, and as such, an understanding of the database terms and concepts is essential.
  • The Disability Service Provider needs to identify a campus Information Technology (IT) Professional who will oversee the installation of SAM V2 and manage persmissions and implementation.
  • Installation of SAM V2 is performed by the institution.
  • SAM V2 requires the institution to have a web server with PHP and MySQL.
  • The IT Professional can review the SAM V2 installation specifics and SAM V2 architecture and features.

Instant Access to the Information You Need

  • SAM V2 is comprised of a number of different tables that allow you to organize, sort, and find student information from individual files to large data sets.
  • When asked, you will have disability information, student accommodations, case note history, and contact information right at hand.

Report and Communicate All Your Information

  • Transform data by choosing from a host of pre-defined report templates.
  • Create your own reports using SQL.
  • SAM V2 offers a sophisticated Find feature that allows you to filter data by multiple fields.

Built-in Network Sharing and Permissions

  • Users can login to SAM V2 and access the same student file simultaneously.
  • SAM V2 offers levels of access permission so you can determine what your users can do and see.

Implementation

  • The institution is responsible for configuring SAM V2.
    • Configuration is performed by adding or modifying records in the database located under the administration menu.
  • To help with implementation, AMAC has developed a SAM V2 Implementation Guide. This document helps the disability service provider identify:
    • The users who will have access
    • The user permissions
    • The multiple-choice field values
    • The list of available accommodations

Security

  • Internet transmission can be either unencrypted or use 128-bit Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. Since the web server is owned and managed by the institution, it depends on the institution to determine the configuration. Both http and https protocols are supported.
  • Only users with a username and password can access the SAM V2 application. User management is managed within the administrative functions of the SAM V2 application by the institution.
  • Users are assigned permissions, which determine which data within the SAM V2 application they can see and what functions they can perform. User permission management is managed within the administration functions of the SAM V2 application by the institution.
  • Functions include adding, editing, viewing, or deleting data. For example, a user can be setup so that users can view records but not add records.
  • Only table level permissions exist for users. SAM V2 does not support field level permissions. For example, a user can be setup to access student records but not disability records. If a user can view student records, they can view all fields on the student record.
  • Physical security of the web and database server(s) is performed by the institution.
